Instagram has just released two new features for Stories. The ephemeral photo and video sharing feature has added stickers and hands-free video recording for its 600 million users. The update comes after an earlier announcement of new features, including Boomerang, mentions, and links.
Instagram announced these new features on its blog:
“…we’re introducing a set of tools to help you add context and creativity to your story: stickers, holiday fun and more. Since last month’s update, we’ve loved seeing how you’ve used Boomerang and mentions to make your stories even more fun. Now you have new ways to turn any moment into something you want to share with your friends and followers.”
Here’s what you need to know about these new features:
1. Stickers

Stickers are another way to get creative with your stories. To add stickers to your photo or video, tap on the stickers button (smiley face) next to the text and drawing tools. You can pinch and zoom to resize or rotate stickers and add as many stickers as you want to your photo or video.
You can add customizable stickers with the current time and weather conditions. These details are based on device information and where you’re currently located. You can also add stickers with your current location by choosing or searching for nearby options. People viewing your story can tap on the location sticker to learn more about that location, but your story won’t appear on the location page. These time, location, and weather stickers are actually similar to Snapchat’s geofilters.
2. Hands-Free Video Recording
The new hands-free feature allows you to record a video with just one tap. To do this, swipe left at the bottom of the screen and tap on “Hands-Free.” You can then start recording without having to press and hold.
These new features are available as part of Instagram’s latest update for Android and iOS users.
