Twitter Monetization: How To Make Money Online With Twitter

Are you interested in Twitter monetization for yourself or your business?

Monetizing your Twitter account allows you to supplement your current income while simultaneously building a better relationship with your followers through high-value content.

Twitter now offers several options for creators to generate income from their tweets and Twitter activity.

Official Twitter Monetization Options

The following are seven ways you can generate income from your Twitter profile.

1. Accept Tips On Twitter

One of the first and simplest ways to start generating revenue from Twitter is to accept tips.

People who visit your account and enjoy your content can use this to send you tips through several popular services, including Bandcamp, Cash App, GoFundMe, Patreon, and Venmo.

To set up Tips on Twitter, go to your Twitter profile on the mobile app and select the edit profile option.

You will see a link to Tips at the bottom of your profile options. You can turn on Tips and choose where you want to receive your tips.

Once you are finished, you should see the Tips icon on your profile. Visitors to your profile will now be able to send you tips!

What is the best way to get tips? Be sure to mention it at the end of your tweets or as a threaded reply to one of your tweets.

2. Setup Subscriptions

Subscriptions allows Twitter users to offer content specifically to paying subscribers.

This feature is available to Twitter accounts with over 500 followers that have been active within the last 30 days.

The account owner must also be at least 18 years old.

To set up Subscriptions, visit your Twitter account and look under Professional Tool for monetization options.

Once you have confirmed you are eligible, you will fill out an application about the types of content you share, what other social networks you use, and what content you plan to offer subscribers.

Once your application is approved, you can choose the price point your subscribers will pay monthly for your exclusive content, from $2.99 to $9.99 per month.

Visitors to your profile can now follow you and Super Follow you for exclusive content.

3. Monetize Videos With Amplify

Publishers who work with a Twitter Partner Manager and share video content on Twitter should inquire about the Amplify Publishing Program.

As a part of this program, you can monetize your video content with Amplify Pre-roll video ads or 1:1 sponsorship from relevant brands.

In addition to working with a Twitter Partner Manager, your Twitter account must be verified, be in good standing, and share brand-safe video content.

This means that your videos cannot include sensitive content, explicit content, profanity, violence, deception, or spam in accordance with the brand safety policy in place to protect Twitter advertisers.

Once accepted into the program, publishers could monetize their video content by selecting an option for monetization while the video uploads or through the Media Studio once it has been tweeted.

4. Join Twitter Blue

Twitter Blue doesn’t offer any monetization options.

But in early February, Twitter’s CEO announced that Twitter will share ad revenue for ads that appear in a creator’s reply thread.

The catch to the ad revenue share was that creators must be Twitter Blue verified to participate.

The Amplify Publishing Program mentioned above also states that publisher accounts must be verified to monetize their videos with Amplify Pre-roll or Amplify Sponsorship opportunities.

In addition to monetization options only available to verified users, Twitter Blue verified users might be able to reach more people thanks to the Verified notifications tab.

It allows Twitter users to filter their notifications to show only those with a verified checkmark.

Twitter Blue is available to users in 15 countries with plans to expand.

To be eligible for the Twitter Blue verified checkmark, your account must be over 90 days old, have a confirmed email and phone number, and have made no recent changes to your profile photo, name, or @username.

Beyond Twitter Monetization

If you are not eligible to participate in the above monetization programs, there are still more ways to monetize your Twitter account and tweets.

5. Get Paid For Sponsored Tweets

Influencer marketing platforms, like IZEA and Upfluence, help connect brands with social media influencers who can help them reach their brands through sponsored messaging.

If you have a Twitter or other social media account with an engaged following, you can sign up for these platforms and make money by promoting brands to your followers.

This will allow you to earn revenue by promoting the things you love to an interested and engaged audience.

6. Promote Exclusive Content

Platforms like Patreon, Substack, and Rumble (to name just a few) allow creators to share exclusive content with their paying subscribers.

Once you create exclusive content on one of these platforms, you can promote it to your Twitter followers.

Be sure to link to your profile on those platforms or your best piece of exclusive content in your Twitter bio to ensure that people who see your tweets eventually find a way to get more exclusive content.

7. Promote Your Business

If you have a business, you can promote it in various ways on Twitter.

One of the best ways to make a sale on Twitter is to search public tweets for keywords related to your products, services, and customer pain points.

For example, professional photographers can search for tweets from people looking for a photographer or asking for a recommendation.

You can also use Twitter filters to narrow your search to people near you or add location keywords to find customers for a local business.

The key is to keep your target audience in mind. If your monetization goals align with your audience’s needs, you can generate additional revenue and grow an audience that supports your content.
