Snapchat Begins Selling Tickets from SeatGeek Within its App

Snapchat has partnered with SeatGeek to introduce in-app purchases of event tickets.

This is notable as it shows Snapchat is continuing to build on its in-app purchasing capabilities. Although limited in nature at this point, it could mean new opportunities for businesses in the future.

Selling of tickets within Snapchat was first tested in a pilot program last month. The Los Angeles Football Club sold a handful of tickets to a single game through Snapchat.

The team published a Snapchat story that allowed users to swipe up and buy tickets without having to leave the app.

Snapchat experimented with in-app purchases before when it launched its own merchandise store back in February.

This integration with SeatGeek marks the first time Snapchat has formed a long-term partnership with a third-party to sell merchandise through the Snapchat app.

In a statement to TechCrunch, the co-founder of SeatGeek says:

“For too long, the legacy ticketing approach has been to make it difficult for teams to sell tickets in lots of places. Teams should want to sell their tickets in as many places as possible.

What we’re excited about over the next few months is beating the drumbeat of openness with new partnerships … We want to drive the whole industry forward and create more tangible results that cause the industry to open up.”

Of course, this isn’t limited to just sports teams, as SeatGeek offers tickets to wide range of events including concerts and broadway plays.

You never know, the next event you attend this summer may start with a Snapchat story.
