In this episode of Marketing Nerds, I was joined by Caitlin Rulien, Director of Communications and Development for the non-profit Squalor to Scholar. She works with some awesome people to help children in India get the funding they need to attend school, which gives them more opportunities to pull themselves, and their families, out of the slums.
Since Caitlin has experience both as a social media manager and as the head of a nonprofit, I thought she would be the perfect person to discuss how nonprofits can get the most out of their social media presence. One of the biggest factors for most nonprofits (or for-purpose organizations, as Caitlin likes to call them) is budget, so we talked about how to maximize the resources you already have, plus tools, tricks, and best practices.
Other points we discussed:
- Which social platforms nonprofits should use
- What type of content nonprofits should post
- How to use social media to drive your fundraising effort
- How to track ROI metrics
- How to stay active on social when you don’t have the budget to hire a dedicated social media manager
