New Facebook Feature Will Alert You of Nearby Events

Facebook quietly rolled out a new feature today that’s designed to make it easier for you to follow nearby events hosted by pages you like.

Never want to miss another local marketing meetup? Want to know the next time one of your favorite speakers is in your area? Just subscribe to the events section of their Facebook page.

You can do this by visiting the page of your choice, navigating to the Events tab, and clicking on the ‘Subscribe’ button which has the little RSS logo on it.

Once you have subscribed to a page’s events, you’ll get alerted next time one of their events is being held in your local area.

With the abundance of noise out there on Facebook, it’s good to have features like these which can help you focus on the things that really matter to you.

It’s also completely optional whether you want to subscribe to a page’s events or not, it’s never something that’s turned on by defaults. That means you won’t suddenly be bombard with notifications about nearby events hosted by all the pages you like.

Many tech blogs are framing this new feature as being geared towards musicians, but really it applies to any Facebook page hosting events whether its a local rock band or a chamber of commerce.

For example, want to know the next time we’re hosting an SEJ Summit in your area? Just visit our events page and click subscribe! Easy as that.

If you host events fairly often through your Facebook page, make sure to let your followers know about this feature so they’ll be notified the next time one is about to take place.
