Facebook Gives Advertisers Control Over Placement of Instant Article and In-stream Ads

Facebook is giving advertisers more control over placement of in-stream, Instant Article, and Audience Network ads.

This is accomplished through the use of block lists.

For example, advertisers can exclude their ads from appearing alongside publishers and apps that conflict with their brand values.

Advertisers can also exclude brand-sensitive content categories from ads across Facebook in-stream videos, Instant Articles and Audience Network.

Expanding Publisher Lists

Since last fall Facebook has allowed advertisers to view a list of publishers monetizing their sites and apps on the Audience Network.

Advertisers can review the publisher lists and determine if thereĀ are any sites and apps they do not want their ads appearing on.

Facebook is expanding publisher lists to include Instant Articles and Facebook in-stream videos.

The company also notes that advertisers can continuously review and update their block lists as new publishers are added.

Advertisers can download publisher lists by following the steps below:

  • Go to Ads Manager
  • Click the three-dash menu icon in the top left and choose Business Settings from the drop-down menu.
  • Click Block lists on the menu on the left.
  • Click Manage.
  • Click See Where Ads Could Appear.

Introducing Publisher Delivery Reports

In an effort to provide even more transparency for advertisers, Facebook is introducing publisher delivery reports.

Advertisers can now view a complete listĀ of sites and apps where their ads have appeared by downloading the Facebook in-stream, Instant Articles, and Audience Network publisher delivery reports.

This will give advertisers another opportunity to review where their ads are appearing and update their block lists accordingly.

These changes are rolling out gradually, so all advertisers may not have access yet.
