Oopsies! Did anybody see this coming? I mean Facebook and Friendfeed joining forces. The official announcement from both Facebook and Friendfeed is out. Facebook agrees to acquire Friendfeed and Friendfeed accepts Facebook friend request and they live happily ever after. But how about the loyal Friendfeed users? Will they live happily ever after as well? There were no details on the financial aspects of the merger yet. Any idea how much Facebook bought Friendfeed? But as part of the deal, all FF employees will join Facebook including FF’s four founders who will all occupy senior positions on Facebook’s engineering and product teams.
FF’s top man Bret Taylor has this to say:
“Facebook and FriendFeed share a common vision of giving people tools to share and connect with their friends. We can’t wait to join the team and bring many of the innovations we’ve developed at FriendFeed to Facebook’s 250 million users around the world.”
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has this to say about the deal:
“Since I first tried FriendFeed, I’ve admired their team for creating such a simple and elegant service for people to share information, as this shows, our culture continues to make Facebook a place where the best engineers come to build things quickly that lots of people will use.”
And what does Friendfeed’s most ardent user and follower has to say about this deal? The Scobleizer has this to say:
I am excited! Facebook has 800 employees and 300 million users. This makes both companies much more important. – Robert Scoble from iPhone
Alright, goodluck to Friendfeed and may the FF boys find happiness with their decision to join Facebook. As for Friendfeed users who hated Twitter’s noise and refused to use Facebook as well because of those noise, welcome to the jungle folks.
Now, Google needs to buy Twitter so that we can all live happily ever after.
