Twitter Announces Form to Verify Account

According to PRNewswire, Twitter now has a form that allows anyone to apply to get their account verified. Previously, it was fairly difficult to get an account verified. Usually only celebrities had their accounts verified by Twitter automatically, or you had to prove via email or the support desk why you needed your account to be verified.

In most cases, verification only occurred if you were a public figure in pop culture (musician, politician, etc) or your industry (the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, for instance).

How To Verify Your Twitter Account:

  1. Log into the account you want to verify.
  2. Go to verification.twitter.com
  3. Follow the prompts
  4. Enter in 2-5 links that will help Twitter identify the user or brand.
  5. Write up to 500 characters explaining why the account should be verified.
  6. Review and submit the request.
  7. Wait for Twitter to get back to you via email

As of press time, Twitter hasn’t stated whether or not they will start being less strict with the verification process, or how long it will take for your account to get verification approval.
